Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla reports, through a man, this statement of his father: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: My brother is suffering. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is your brother's ailment?" He said: He has madness (or epilepsy). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Send him to me!" When that man came to him, he sat down in front of him. The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited over him Surah al-Fatihah, the first four verses of Surah al-Baqarah, and this one verse from its middle: "And your God is One God; there is no god but He, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth", until he completed that verse. (The narrator says:) After this the narrator mentioned the hadith as before; however, in this narration he mentioned ten verses of Surah al-Saff and did not say "its first ten verses", and he said: "He recited the last three verses of Surah al-Hashr."
Abu Ya'la recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator who is not named, and a narrator, Abu Janab, who is da'if (weak) because of his tadlis (concealing defects in the chain); Ibn Hibban declared him thiqah (trustworthy).
