Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 8467

Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a Bedouin came to him and said: O Prophet of Allah, I have a brother who is suffering. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is his ailment?" He said: He has madness (or epilepsy). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring him to me!" Sayyiduna Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: He sat him down in front of him, and then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ruqyah on him. He recited Surah al-Fatihah, recited the first four verses of Surah al-Baqarah, and recited this verse: "And your God is One God"; and Ayat al-Kursi and the last three verses of Surah al-Baqarah; and he recited this verse of Surah Al Imran: "Allah bears witness that there is no god but He"; he recited this verse of Surah al-A'raf: "Indeed, your Lord is Allah"; he recited these last verses of Surah al-Mu'minun: "So exalted is Allah, the King, the Truth"; he recited this verse of Surah al-Jinn: "And exalted is the majesty of our Lord"; he recited the first ten verses of Surah al-Saffat, the first three verses of Surah al-Hashr, Surah al-Ikhlas and the Mu'awwidhatayn (he recited all these verses and performed ruqyah on him). Then that man stood up as though he had never had any complaint.
Abdullah bin Ahmad recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Abu Janab, and he is da'if (weak) because he committed tadlis (concealing defects in the chain) a great deal; Ibn Hibban declared him thiqah (trustworthy). The remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.
