A man from the Ansar reports from his father that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed this remedy for sciatica ('irq al-nasa): that the fat tail of an Arabian ram, neither small nor large, be taken and melted, then divided into three portions, and one portion be drunk each day on an empty stomach.
Ahmad recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator who is not named; the remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whoever buys a ram, or is given a ram as a gift, should divide it into three portions and eat one portion each day on an empty stomach. If he wishes he may melt it, and if he wishes he may eat it as it is." The narrator says: What the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) meant was that this be done with the fat tail of the ram, and that it be used as a remedy for sciatica.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. He says: the word aslahu means to melt it. All the narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Truffles are part of the manna, and their water is a cure for the eye; and the Ajwah date is from Paradise, and it is a cure for poison." The narrator relates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed the fat tail of a ram for sciatica: that it be divided into three portions, then melted, and one portion be drunk each day.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in all three books. Its chain contains Mahdi bin Ja'far al-Ramli, who is thiqah (trustworthy) but has some weakness. The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
