When the irrevocably divorced woman becomes lawful again

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about a man who has a wife and gives her three divorces; after that another man marries that woman and divorces her before consummating the marriage with her: will that woman become lawful for her first husband? The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, not until the second husband tastes her honey as the first tasted it, and the woman tastes the man's honey."
Ahmad, al-Bazzar and Abu Ya'la recorded it, though he (Abu Ya'la) reported these words: "The second husband died before consummating the marriage with her."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Muhammad bin Dinar al-Tahi, whose case is different. Abu Hatim, Abu Zur'ah and Ibn Hibban declared him thiqah (trustworthy), and the criticism made of him is not harmful.

Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Rifa'ah bin Simwal divorced his wife. That woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Abd al-Rahman has married me, but what he has is only like this," and the woman pointed to the fringe of her garment as she said it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from her words, and then said to her: "Do you want to go back to Rifa'ah? No! That cannot happen until you taste his (that is, your second husband's) honey and he tastes your honey."
Al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani recorded it, and the narrators of both are thiqat (trustworthy).
Malik recorded it in the Muwatta' as a mursal narration, and here the narration is muttasil (connected).

Sayyiduna Ubaydullah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna al-Fadl bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrate: A woman named al-Ghumaysa' (the narrator is unsure, perhaps the words are:) al-Rumaysa' came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to complain about her husband. She said that he did not have relations with her. Her husband said: "O Messenger of Allah! She is lying. I do so, but she wants to go back to her first husband." The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This woman will not be lawful for that man until (the second husband) tastes her honey."
Abu Ya'la recorded it. Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A woman who has been given three divorces will not be lawful for her first husband until she marries another husband, and the second husband is intimate with her and tastes her honey."
Al-Tabarani and Abu Ya'la recorded it, though he (Abu Ya'la) reported wording like the narration of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and it is similar to this. The narrators of Abu Ya'la are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: A woman from Banu Qurayzah named Tamimah was the wife of Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both), and he divorced her. Rifa'ah, who was from Banu Qurayzah, married this woman, then he separated from her. The woman intended to go back to Abd al-Rahman bin al-Zubayr (that is, to marry him again), and she said: "O Messenger of Allah! What he has (that is, the second husband) is like the fringe of this garment of mine." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By Allah! O Tamimah, you cannot go back to Abd al-Rahman until a man other than him (that is, your second husband) tastes your honey." The woman said: "O Messenger of Allah! He came to me as a gift." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
This narration is in the Sahih, except that the woman's name, Tamimah, is not mentioned in it.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Ishaq, who is a mudallis.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said concerning a woman who is given three divorces before the marriage is consummated: "She will not be lawful for the husband until she marries someone else."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Asim bin Abi al-Najud, whose case is different: he is thiqah (trustworthy), and there is weakness in him.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: "Her master having relations with such a woman does not make her lawful for her husband."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except that Ibn Jurayj says: "It was narrated to me from Asim, Masruq and Ibrahim al-Nakha'i,
this narration." He did not name the person who
narrated it to him.

Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "'Usaylah (tasting the honey) means intercourse."
Ahmad and Abu Ya'la recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Abu Abd al-Malik al-Makki, and I do not know him except through this hadith. The remaining narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

In a narration of Abu Ya'la the words are: Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that by the word "'usaylah" the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) meant nikah (that is, honey means intercourse).
