Sayyiduna Abu Usayd (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by us, and some of his Companions were with him. We also set out with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) until we came to a garden called al-Shawt, until we came and sat between two walls. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Remain seated." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went and visited the Jawniyyah woman, who had been placed in a house in that garden. Her name was Umaymah bint al-Nu'man bin Shurahbil, and a nursemaid was with her. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to this woman, he said: "Give yourself to me as a gift." The woman said: "Does a queen give herself as a gift to common people?" The narrator says: A narrator other than Sayyiduna Abu Humayd (may Allah be pleased with him) has stated that this woman was from Banu al-Jawn and her name was Umaymah, and that the woman said: "I seek refuge with Allah from you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have sought a mighty refuge." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came back out to us and said: "O Abu Usayd! Provide her with two garments and take her back to her family." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Al-Tabarani recorded the hadith narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Usayd in abridged form. Ahmad recorded all of these narrations, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Suwayd bin Ghafalah narrates: A'ishah bint Khalifah al-Khath'amiyyah was the wife of Sayyiduna Imam al-Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). When Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred and the pledge of allegiance for the caliphate was given to Sayyiduna Imam al-Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him), after that he came to this woman, and she said: "Congratulations to you on the caliphate." Sayyiduna Imam al-Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said to her: "Are you showing gloating over the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him)? Go away, you are divorced three times." So the woman wrapped herself in a sheet and sat in a corner of the house. The woman said: "By Allah! I did not mean what you have taken it to mean." Then she stayed until her waiting period was over, and then she left his house. Imam al-Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) sent her whatever of her dowry (mahr) remained, and also sent ten thousand (dirhams or dinars) as a parting provision. When the messenger came to her with these things, she said: "This is a small provision compared with a beloved who is parting." When the messenger went back to Sayyiduna Imam al-Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) and told him what the woman had said, Sayyiduna Imam al-Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) wept and said: "If I had not heard my grandfather, the Messenger of Allah (the narrator is unsure, perhaps the words are:), if I had not heard my father, from my grandfather,
narrating that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'When a man gives his wife three divorces at the times of the menstrual cycles (qur'), or gives her three unspecified divorces, she will not be lawful for him until she marries someone else (and then becomes widowed or divorced),' (Imam al-Hasan, may Allah be pleased with him, said: had this not been so) then I would have taken this woman back."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. There is weakness in its narrators, although they have been declared trustworthy.

Abu Ishaq narrates: Sayyiduna Imam al-Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) gave his wife twenty thousand (dirhams or dinars) as a parting provision. When I brought it to that woman and placed it before her, she said: "All of this is little compared with a beloved who is parting."

In one narration the words are: Imam al-Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) gave two women twenty thousand (dirhams or dinars) and a container of honey as a parting provision, and one of the two said (I think that woman was Hunayfah): "This provision is little compared with a beloved who is parting." Al-Tabarani recorded all of these narrations. The narrators of the first narration are the narrators of the Sahih.
