Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A man came to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "I have given my wife an irrevocable divorce (talaq battah) during her menstruation." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You have disobeyed your Lord, and you have become separated from your wife." The man said: "But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar to take back his wife when he had separated from her." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Messenger of Allah instructed him to take her back by virtue of the divorce that still remained, but for you no divorce remains on the basis of which you could take back your wife."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih except Isma'il bin Ibrahim al-Tarjumani, and he is thiqah (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that he gave his wife one divorce during her menstruation; then he intended to give the remaining two divorces after it during the two remaining menstrual cycles (qur'). When this news reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "O Ibn Umar! Is this how Allah Almighty commanded it to be done? You have gone against the Sunnah. The Sunnah is that when the state of purity begins, you give one divorce in each cycle (qur')." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded me, and I took her back. Then he said: "Then when she menstruates and then becomes pure, at that time divorce her or keep her with you." I said: "O Messenger of Allah! If I had given her three divorces, would I have had the right to take her back?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In that case she would have become separated from you, and it would have been an act of disobedience." (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: A hadith narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) is recorded in the Sahih, but without this context.
Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ali bin Sa'id al-Razi. Daraqutni (may Allah have mercy on him) says: "He is not of that standing," while others have acknowledged his eminence. The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).

Abu al-Zubayr narrates: I asked Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) about a man who divorces his wife while she is menstruating. He said: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) divorced his wife during her menstruation. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him about it, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He should take her back, for she is still his wife."
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih except Ibn Lahi'ah, and his hadith is hasan (good).

Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Saying to one's wife: 'I have divorced you; I have taken you back' (using words like these) is not the way Muslims divorce. Divorce a woman at the beginning of her state of purity."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and these are his words, and he also recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; however, there he said that it is narrated from Humayd bin Abd al-Rahman al-Himyari, who narrates: It reached Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet had expressed displeasure with the people of the Ash'ari tribe. He said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have learned that you have expressed displeasure with the people of the Ash'ari tribe." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, the reason is that one of them says: 'I have married; I have divorced.'" After that, the narrator mentioned the report as before, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ahmad bin Sa'id bin Farqad, who is da'if (weak).

Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Ishaq bin Ibrahim al-Abdi, and I do not know him.
