Sayyidah Safiyyah bint Huyayy (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out for Hajj, taking his wives with him. At one place on the way a man dismounted and began to lead the camels of these women, and he began to go fast. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Gently! You are leading glass vessels," meaning that he was leading women. While they were travelling along, the camel of Sayyidah Safiyyah bint Huyayy (may Allah be pleased with her) knelt down, even though her camel was the best of them all. She began to weep. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came, having been told about it, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to wipe away her tears with his blessed hand, but her weeping increased. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was telling her to stop, and when her weeping became excessive, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) scolded her and ordered the people to make camp. The people made camp, although the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had not intended to make camp. Sayyidah Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The people made camp, and it was my allotted day. When the people had made camp, a tent was pitched for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went into it. Sayyidah Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I could not understand how I would face the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); I feared that he might be angry with me. I went to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and said to her: "You know that I would never give up my allotted day with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in exchange for anything at all, but I give my allotted day to you on the condition that you make the Messenger of Allah pleased with me." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Very well." Then Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) put on her head-covering, which had saffron on it; she sprinkled water on it so that its fragrance would begin to spread. Then she put on fine clothes and went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). She lifted the edge of the tent, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "What is the matter with you? Today is not your allotted day." She said: "This is the bounty of Allah Almighty; He grants it to whomever He wills." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spent the midday rest with his wife. When it was time to set off, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyidah Zaynab bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her): "O Zaynab! Give a camel to your sister Safiyyah." That lady had the most mounts of them all. She said: "Shall I give it to your Jewish woman?" When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard this from her, he became angry, and he kept away from her and did not speak with her until he reached Makkah. During the days of the journey and the days of Mina he did not speak to her, until he returned to Madinah. Then Muharram passed and Safar passed, but he did not visit her, nor did he give her a share in the turns, until she lost hope of him. When the month of Rabi' al-Awwal came, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to her. She saw his shadow and said: "This is the shadow of a man. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) does not come to me, so who could this be?" When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came in and she saw him, she said: "O Messenger of Allah! I do not know what to do now that you have come to me." She had a slave-girl whom she had kept aside, and she said: "That slave-girl is yours." Then he went to the bed of Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her), which had been lifted up; he laid it down with his blessed hand, then he was intimate with his wife and became pleased with her.
Ahmad recorded it. Its chain contains a female narrator named Sumayyah; Abu Dawud and others have recorded narrations from her, and no one has declared her da'if (weak). The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyidah Aishah al-Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Sayyidah Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) sent food to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) which she had prepared for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was at my home at the time. When I saw the slave-girl, I became angry, and when the slave-girl came in front of me, I struck the bowl with my hand and threw it away. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: Then I looked at the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and could see the anger in his face. I said: "I seek the refuge of the Messenger of Allah from his cursing me." I say: Abu Dawud and others recorded it in abridged form.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyidah Aishah al-Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) was with us. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came at the beginning of the night. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I remembered something that he had made with his blessed hand; Sayyidah Umm Salamah was not supposed to find out about it. I tried to draw his attention to it with hints and gestures, and he understood (what I meant). Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Is this what is happening now? Can any one of us be with you only when you are alone?" Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) began to speak ill of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to stop her, but she would not listen. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You answer her too." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) began to speak ill of her until she prevailed over her. Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) went to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: "Aishah has spoken ill of her, and has said this about you people and has said that." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her): "Go to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and tell him that Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) has said this about us and has said that." (Fatimah said:) I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned that matter before him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her): "By the Lord of the Ka'bah! She is the beloved of your father." Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) went back to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and mentioned to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said to her. He said: "Is it not enough for you that Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said this about us and said that, yet when Fatimah went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: 'By the Lord of the Ka'bah! She is the beloved of your father.'"
(Al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud recorded this narration, except that he mentioned Sayyidah Zaynab bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her) in place of Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), and his narration is shorter than this one. And Allah knows best.
Ahmad recorded it. Its chain contains Ali bin Zayd, in whom there is weakness, and his hadith is hasan (good).

Sayyidah Aishah al-Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: My baggage was light, and it was on a strong camel, while the baggage of Sayyidah Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) was heavy, and it was on a sluggish, weak camel, because of which the other riders were having difficulty moving along. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Move Aishah's baggage onto Safiyyah's camel, and move Safiyyah's baggage onto Aishah's camel, so that the riders can keep moving." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: When I saw this, I said: "O servants of Allah! This Jewish woman has prevailed over us with the Messenger of Allah." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Umm Abdullah! Your baggage is light and Safiyyah's baggage is heavy, because of which the riders are having difficulty moving, so we have moved her baggage onto your camel and moved your baggage onto her camel." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I said: "Do you not claim that you are the Messenger of Allah?" Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled and said: "O Umm Abdullah! Are you in doubt about that?" Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I asked: "Do you not say that you are the Messenger of Allah? Then why do you not act justly?" Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) heard me; there was sharpness in his temperament. He came towards me and slapped my face. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Bakr! Hold back." He said: "O Messenger of Allah! Did you not hear what she said?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A woman overcome by jealousy cannot tell the bottom of the valley from its top (i.e. in a fit of jealousy one understands nothing)."

One day, while she was sitting at midday, she saw his shadow as he was approaching, so she laid out her bed again and put her belongings back. (Al-Haythami says:) I say:
Abu Dawud recorded it in abridged form.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a female narrator, Sumayyah; Abu Dawud and others have recorded narrations from her, and no one has criticised her. The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
