Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A young man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Permit me to castrate myself!" He said: "Fast, and ask Allah Almighty for His bounty!"
Imam Ahmad recorded this narration from a man, from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him); the remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Permit me to castrate myself." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The castration of my Ummah is fasting and offering voluntary prayers (at night)."
Imam Ahmad and Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), though some of its narrators have been criticised.

It is reported about Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "O Messenger of Allah! I am a man for whom being alone during military expeditions is hard, so permit me to castrate myself!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No! Rather, O Ibn Maz'un, fasting is binding on you, for it will curb desire."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration; its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Malik bin Qudamah al-Jumahi, whom Yahya bin Ma'in and others declared thiqah (trustworthy), while a group declared him da'if (weak); the remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A man complained to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of being single and said: "Should I not castrate myself?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "He is not one of us who castrates or has himself castrated. Rather, fast, and let the hair of your body grow."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration; its chain contains a narrator, Mu'alla bin Hilal, who is matruk (abandoned).

Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to forbid a man to remain unmarried, and (he forbade) that he be deprived of entering the houses of the believers.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration; I found this narration thus in the copy from which I transcribed it, and its chain is hasan (good). The hadith narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'id bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) has already passed.
