وَعَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ مَظْعُونٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي رَجُلٌ تَشُقُّ عَلَيَّ هَذِهِ الْعُزْبَةُ فِي الْمَغَازِي فَتَأْذَنُ لِي فِي الْخِصَاءِ فَأَخْتَصِي ؟ قَالَ : " لَا ، وَلَكِنْ عَلَيْكَ يَا ابْنَ مَظْعُونٍ بِالصِّيَامِ ، فَإِنَّهَا مَخْفَرَةٌ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ الْجُمَحِيُّ ؛ وَثَّقَهُ ابْنُ مَعِينٍ وَغَيْرُهُ ، وَضَعَّفَهُ جَمَاعَةٌ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ ثِقَاتٌ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ الْجُمَحِيُّ ؛ وَثَّقَهُ ابْنُ مَعِينٍ وَغَيْرُهُ ، وَضَعَّفَهُ جَمَاعَةٌ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ ثِقَاتٌ .
It is reported about Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "O Messenger of Allah! I am a man for whom being alone during military expeditions is hard, so permit me to castrate myself!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No! Rather, O Ibn Maz'un, fasting is binding on you, for it will curb desire."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration; its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Malik bin Qudamah al-Jumahi, whom Yahya bin Ma'in and others declared thiqah (trustworthy), while a group declared him da'if (weak); the remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).
