One who fasts a day before Ramadan

Sayyiduna Talq bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) reports from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he forbade fasting a day ahead of Ramadan until one sees the new crescent or the count is completed; and then people are not to stop fasting until they see it (the new crescent) or the count is completed.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator whom I do not know.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade fasting on three days: (fasting a day) before sighting (the new crescent of Ramadan), or (fasting on) Eid al-Fitr or Eid al-Adha.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Sa'id bin Maslamah, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy); he said: He makes mistakes. A group of scholars declared him da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from joining a fast onto Ramadan.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Isma'il bin Muslim al-Makki, who is da'if (weak).

Abdullah bin Abi Musa states: Mudrik, or perhaps Ibn Mudrik, sent me to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) to ask her about some matters. I came to her and asked her about the day concerning which there is disagreement whether it is part of Ramadan or not. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "That I fast a day of Sha'ban is dearer to me than that I leave a day of Ramadan unfasted." The narrator says: I asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah about this, and each of them said: "The wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) know best about this."
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Masruq states: I visited Sayyidah Aishah al-Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) on a day about which there was doubt whether it was part of Ramadan (or not). Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O slave girl, mix some barley drink (sawiq) for him." I said: "I am fasting." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Have you fasted before the month has begun?" I said: "No, but I fasted the whole of Sha'ban, so I fasted this day as well." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Some people fasted before the month (of Ramadan) and before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so this verse was revealed: 'O you who believe, do not try to go ahead of Allah and His Messenger.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Hibban bin Ruqaydah, who is majhul (unknown).

Muhammad bin Ka'b states: On a day about which we were in doubt whether it was part of Ramadan (or not), I visited Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) at the time of Asr, intending to greet him with salam. He sent for food and ate. I said: "Is what you have done a Sunnah?" He replied: "Yes."
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Al-Tirmidhi recorded a report from him about not fasting when a person intends to travel.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Utbah bin Ammar reports, through Ibn Ayyash, this statement of his father: I came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "Some people of the tribe and some of our neighbours are fasting today." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "Upon sighting the new crescent?" I replied: "No." He said: "That I leave a day of Ramadan unfasted and then make it up is dearer to me than that I fast a day of Sha'ban."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. I have not found anyone who mentioned Utbah or his father.
