Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Do you know which charity is most virtuous?" The people said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Giving a manihah (a loaned gift): that one of you gives his brother a dirham, or a riding animal, or the milk of a goat, or the milk of a cow."
Ahmad and Abu Ya'la recorded it. He added these words: "a dinar or a cow." Al-Bazzar recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. The narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever gives silver or gold as a gift, or water or milk to drink, or gives a large camel as a present, it is like freeing a slave."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: "The best charity is the manihah (a loaned gift), which brings reward in the morning and brings reward in the evening. Giving a she-camel as a manihah is like freeing a fair-skinned person, and giving a goat as a manihah is like freeing a dark-skinned slave."
Ahmad recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Abdullah bin Sabihah, whom Ibn Abi Hatim mentioned without mentioning any criticism of him. Its remaining narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): He said: O Abu Dharr! Keep in mind what I am about to tell you: a young goat that comes to a Muslim man is better for him than if Mount Uhud were turned into gold and given to him, and then he left it behind him.
Imam Ahmad recorded this narration. Its chain contains a narrator, Abu al-Aswad al-Ghifari, whom Imam al-Nasa'i (may Allah have mercy on him) declared "da'if (weak)".
