Sayyiduna al-Miswar bin Makhramah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Ansar heard that Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) had come with wealth from Bahrain. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had sent him to Bahrain. So they joined the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the morning (Fajr) prayer. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, they presented themselves before him. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw them, he smiled and said: Perhaps you have heard that Abu Ubaydah has come, and has come with wealth? They said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Receive glad tidings and hope for good. By Allah, it is not poverty that I fear for you; rather, the world will be poured out upon you, and you will vie for it just as those before you vied for it.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Abu Sinan al-Du'ali narrates that he came into the presence of Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and at that time some people from the first Muhajirun were with him. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sent for the goods that had come from a fortress in Iraq. Among them was a ring. One of his sons took that ring and put it in his mouth. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) took it back from him, then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) wept. One of those present with him asked him: Why are you weeping, when Allah Almighty has granted you victory, given you dominance over your enemy, and cooled your eyes? Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whenever the world is opened up to a people, Allah Almighty casts enmity and hatred among them, and this will continue until the Day of Resurrection." (Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said:) So I fear this.
Ahmad and Abu Ya'la recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. (This is how it is written in the Arabic text; perhaps it should be that al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir.) Its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, about whom there is criticism.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This dinar and dirham destroyed those who were before you, and my view about them both is that they will destroy you too."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Yahya bin al-Mundhir, who is da'if (weak).
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Other hadith of this kind will come later in the chapter on abstinence (zuhd), if Allah wills.
