Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every single deed of each day is sealed. When a believer falls ill, the angels say: 'O our Lord! You have confined Your servant.' The Lord says: 'Seal his deeds (according to his previous routine) until he recovers or dies.'"
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, about whom there is criticism.

Abu al-Ash'ath al-San'ani narrates that he went to the mosque of Damascus, setting out early. He met Sayyiduna Shaddad bin Aws al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), and al-Sunabihi was with him. The narrator says: I asked: "May Allah Almighty have mercy on you both, where are you going?" They both replied: "We are going here to visit a brother of ours from Egypt who is ill." The narrator says: I set out with them as well. The two of them went to that man and asked him: "How are you?" He replied: "I have woken up in blessing." Sayyiduna Shaddad (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "Receive the glad tidings of the expiation of sins and the wiping away of misdeeds, for I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Indeed, Allah Almighty says: When I test one of My believing servants with a trial (that is, an illness), and he praises Me for the trial I have put him through, then (O angels) record reward for him just as you used to record reward for him when he was healthy.'"
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. All of them narrated it through Isma'il bin Ayyash from Rashid al-San'ani, and he (Isma'il) is da'if (weak) when narrating from other than the people of Syria.

Abu Ya'la recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-A'la bin Abi al-Musawir, and he is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Utbah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How amazing is the believer and his distress over illness! If he knew what reward he receives for illness, he would love to remain ill forever." The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his blessed head towards the sky and laughed. It was said: "O Messenger of Allah! Why did you raise your head to the sky and laugh?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I was amazed at two angels. They were looking for a servant at the place of prayer where he used to be, and the two angels did not find him. So they both went back and said: 'O our Lord! We used to record for Your such-and-such servant, every day and night, the deeds he used to do. Now we have found that You have confined him in Your rope (that is, made him ill).' Allah Almighty said: 'Record for My servant the same deeds he used to do every day and night, and do not reduce anything from them. As long as I have confined him, his reward is upon Me, and he will have the reward of the deeds he used to do before.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and al-Bazzar recorded it in abridged form. Its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Abi Humayd, and he is extremely da'if (weak).
