Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reports about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that when he had said 'Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah' (Allah hears the one who praises Him), he would then say: "O Allah, our Lord, to You alone belongs all praise, praise that fills the heavens, fills the earth and fills what lies between them, and fills whatever else You will. You are worthy of praise, worthy of grandeur and worthy of glory. None can withhold what You give, and the effort of one who strives against You does not benefit him."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir through various routes, one of which is a narration whose narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except that its chain contains a narrator, Ash'ath bin Sawwar, and there is disagreement about using him as evidence; while the other routes contain Muhammad bin Abi Layla, about whom there is criticism.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the imam says 'Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah' (Allah hears the one who praises Him), those behind him should say 'Rabbana laka al-hamd' (Our Lord, to You belongs all praise).
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in prayer. When he raised his head from ruku' (bowing), he said 'Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah' (Allah hears the one who praises Him). A person behind him said these words: "O our Lord, to You alone belongs praise, abundant, pure and blessed." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) completed the prayer, he asked three times: "Who was the one who spoke just now?" A man said, "O Messenger of Allah, it was I." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By the One in whose Hand is my soul, I saw more than thirty angels rushing towards these words, (competing) as to which of them would record them first."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, al-Yasa' bin Talhah, and he is munkar al-hadith (his narrations are rejected).

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The imam is appointed only so that he may be followed. When he says the takbir, you say the takbir; when he goes into ruku' (bowing), you go into ruku'; when he says 'Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah' (Allah hears the one who praises Him), you say 'Al-hamdu lillah' (All praise is for Allah)."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. It is mentioned in the Sahih, but the words "Al-hamdu lillah" are not mentioned there. The narrators of this narration have been declared trustworthy.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led a prayer. When he said 'Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah' (Allah hears the one who praises Him), a man behind him said these words: "O Allah, our Lord, to You alone belongs every kind of praise, abundant, pure and blessed." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) completed the prayer, he asked: "Who is the one who said these words?" A man said, "O Messenger of Allah, it was I." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I saw a number of angels take hold of these words and go upwards with them until they disappeared from my sight."
Imam al-Bazzar recorded this narration. Its chain contains a narrator whom I do not know. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Hadiths about what a person should say in ruku' (bowing) and sujud (prostration) will come later, after the chapter on prostration, if Allah wills.
