Hani' bin Mu'awiyah al-Sadafi narrates: I came for Hajj in the time of Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him). I sat in the mosque of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and there a man was narrating hadith to the people. He said: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man came and began to pray by this pillar. He did not complete his prayer properly but rather prayed it hastily, then he left. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If this man dies (in this state), he will die having no connection with the religion. A man should keep his prayer short, but he must complete it." The narrator says: I asked, "Who is this man (who is narrating this hadith)?" I was told, "This is Sayyiduna Uthman bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him)."
Imam Ahmad recorded this narration, and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, about whom there is criticism, and its chain also contains a narrator, al-Bara' bin Uthman, who is not known.

Sayyiduna Abu Abdullah al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a man who was not completing his ruku' (bowing) and was pecking in his sajdah (prostration) while he was praying. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If he dies in this state, he will die upon other than the religion of Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The example of the one who does not complete his ruku' and pecks in his sajdah is like that of a hungry person who eats one or two dates, which do not satisfy his need." Abu Salih narrates: I asked Abu Abdullah, "Who narrated this hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He replied, "The commanders of the armies, namely Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As, Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid and Sayyiduna Shurahbil bin Hasanah; these men heard this hadith from the tongue of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and Imam Abu Ya'la, and its chain is hasan (good).

It is reported about Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) that he saw a man who was not completing the ruku' (bowing) and sujud (prostrations), so he said: "If this man dies in this state, he will die upon other than the religion of Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, but in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir he recorded these words: "He will die upon other than the religion of Sayyiduna Isa." The narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his companions, while I was present there, (the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:) "If this pillar belonged to one of you, he would dislike being cheated over it. Then why is it that a person does a deed and cheats in his prayer, which is exclusively for Allah Almighty? Perform your prayer completely, for Allah Almighty accepts only what is complete."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its chain is hasan (good).

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade me to recite (the Qur'an) while in ruku' (bowing). He said: "O Ali, the example of the one who does not straighten his back in his prayer is like a pregnant woman who conceives, and when the time of her delivery draws near, she miscarries; so now she is neither pregnant nor has a child."
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded this narration. I say: Part of this narration, concerning the prohibition of reciting during ruku', is reported in the Sahih. Its chain contains a narrator, Musa bin Ubaydah al-Rabadhi, and he is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When a servant prays and does not complete the humility (khushu') of his prayer and its ruku' (bowing), and turns his attention this way and that a great deal, his prayer is not accepted. And whoever lets his garment hang down out of arrogance, Allah Almighty will not look at him on the Day of Resurrection, even if that person is honoured in the sight of Allah Almighty."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Ubaydullah bin Zahr, and he is extremely da'if (weak).

Hadith Takhrij«أخرجه المعجم الكبير للطبراني برقم: 9778»
It is reported from Qatadah, or perhaps someone else: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) saw two men praying. One of them had let his lower garment hang down, and the other was not completing his ruku' (bowing) and sujud (prostrations). Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) laughed. The people asked, "O Abu Abd al-Rahman, what made you laugh?" He said: "I am amazed at these two men. As for the one who has let his lower garment hang down, Allah Almighty will not look at him; and as for the other, Allah Almighty will not accept his prayer."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration. The chain of this narration is broken (munqati') between Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and Qatadah, and the narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a servant performs ablution and does it well, then stands for prayer and completes its ruku' (bowing), its sujud (prostrations) and the recitation in it, that prayer says: 'May Allah Almighty protect you as you have protected me.' Then that prayer is taken up towards the sky, and it has radiance and light, and the gates of the sky are opened for it. And when the servant does not perform ablution well, and does not complete the ruku', the sujud and the recitation, the prayer says: 'May Allah Almighty ruin you as you have ruined me.' Then that prayer is raised towards the sky with darkness covering it, and the gates of the sky are closed. Then that prayer is folded up just as an old worn-out garment is folded up, and then it is struck against the face of the person who prayed it."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and Imam al-Bazzar recorded something similar. Its chain contains a narrator, al-Ahwas bin Hakim, whom Ali bin al-Madini and al-Ijli declared thiqah (trustworthy), while a group declared him da'if (weak). The remaining narrators of this narration have been declared trustworthy.

Zayd bin Jubayr narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar saw Sayyiduna Umar, and Sayyiduna Umar saw a young man who was praying; he was making his prayer long and drawing it out. He asked, "Who knows this man?" A man said, "I do." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar said: "If I knew this man, I would instruct him to make the ruku' (bowing) and sajdah (prostration) long, for I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'When a servant stands to pray, his sins are brought and placed on his head and his shoulders, and whenever he goes into ruku' or goes into sajdah, those sins fall away.'"
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Abdullah bin Salih, the scribe of al-Layth. Abd al-Malik bin Shu'ayb bin al-Layth said: He is thiqah (trustworthy) and ma'mun (reliable). A group, namely Imam Ahmad and others, declared him da'if (weak). Other hadiths of this kind will come in the discussion of the virtue of prayer, and Allah knows best.
