Sayyiduna Jabir bin Sakhr (may Allah be pleased with him), who belonged to Banu Salimah, says: On the road to Makkah the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who will go ahead of us to al-Uthayah" (the narrator Abu Uways says: that is the place to which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent us off) "and repair its cistern and fill it with water until we reach it?" Sayyiduna Jabbar (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I stood up and said: "I will." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go." So I set off and came to al-Uthayah, plastered the cistern with clay, prepared it and filled it with water. Then my eyes overcame me and I fell asleep, and I only woke because of a man whose she-camel was pulling towards the water while he held her back from it. The man said: "O owner of the cistern, let me water at your cistern" and it was the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I said: "Yes." He (peace and blessings be upon him) watered his mount, then turned away and made it kneel. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Follow me with the water vessel." I followed him with water, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution, and performed it well, and I performed ablution along with him. Then he stood up to pray. I stood on his left, so he took my hand and moved me round to his right. Then we prayed, and shortly afterwards the people reached us.
Ahmad recorded it. Of all this, al-Tabarani recorded in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir only: "I prayed behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he made me stand on his right." The chain of this narration contains a narrator, Shurahbil bin Sa'd, who is da'if (weak).
