Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: One day he was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and some of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were also there. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards them and said: "O people! Do you not know that I am the Messenger of Allah to you?" They said: Yes! We bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you not know that Allah Almighty has revealed in His Book that whoever obeys me is counted as obeying Allah Almighty?" They said: Yes! We bear witness that whoever obeys you obeys Allah Almighty, for obeying you is part of obeying Allah Almighty. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then part of obeying Allah Almighty is that you obey me, and part of obeying me is that you obey your imams. Obey your imams! If they pray sitting, then you also pray sitting!"
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
