Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Hanzalah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were in the house of Sayyiduna Qays bin Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him), and some of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were with us. We said to him: Go forward (and lead the prayer). He said: I will not go forward. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Hanzalah said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man has more right to the front (central) place on his own bedding, more right to the front of his own mount, and more right to lead the prayer in his own house." So he instructed one of his freed slaves, who went forward and led the prayer.
Al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded it; its chain contains Ishaq bin Yahya bin Talhah, whom Ahmad, Ibn Ma'in and al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) declared da'if (weak), while Ya'qub bin Shaybah called him thiqah (trustworthy), and Ibn Hibban (may Allah have mercy on him) declared him thiqah (trustworthy).

Ibrahim narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) and sat with him, talking. When the time of prayer came and the iqamah was called, Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) stepped back. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: O Abu Musa! You know that it is part of the Sunnah that the master of the house goes forward (to lead the people in prayer). But Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) would not accept this, until a freed slave of one of the two of them went forward (and led them in prayer).
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Alqamah narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) at his house. The time of prayer came, and Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Abu Abd al-Rahman, go forward, for you are greater both in age and in knowledge. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: No, rather you go forward. We have come to you in your house and your place of prayer, so you have more right (to lead us). The narrator says: So Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) went forward and took off his shoes. When he had concluded with the salam, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Why did you take off these shoes? Were you in the sacred valley?
Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains a narrator who is not named. Al-Tabarani recorded it as a connected (muttasil) narration with thiqah (trustworthy) narrators.
