Alqamah narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) at his house. The time of prayer came, and Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Abu Abd al-Rahman, go forward, for you are greater both in age and in knowledge. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: No, rather you go forward. We have come to you in your house and your place of prayer, so you have more right (to lead us). The narrator says: So Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) went forward and took off his shoes. When he had concluded with the salam, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Why did you take off these shoes? Were you in the sacred valley?
Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains a narrator who is not named. Al-Tabarani recorded it as a connected (muttasil) narration with thiqah (trustworthy) narrators.
