Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed in an open space, and there was nothing (as a sutrah) in front of him.
Ahmad and Abu Ya'la recorded it; its chain contains al-Hajjaj bin Artah, in whom there is weakness.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I and a young man from Banu Hashim came riding on a donkey. We passed in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was praying. We dismounted from the animal and left the donkey to eat from the greenery of the earth (the narrator is unsure whether the words were:) to eat from the plants of the earth. Then we joined the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the prayer. The narrator says: A man asked: Was there a spear (planted as a sutrah) in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at that time? He replied: No. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
This narration is mentioned in the Sahih, but without these words: "Was there a spear in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? He replied: No."
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Imam al-Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was praying; he was praying near the Black Stone, there was no sutrah in front of him, and men and women were performing tawaf of the Ka'bah in front of him.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Yasin al-Zayyat, who is matruk (abandoned).
