Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "If those who stay away from the Isha prayer and the morning prayer (in congregation) knew how great the reward of these two is, they would come to them, even if they had to come crawling."

Abu Umayr bin Anas reports from his paternal uncles, who were among the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No hypocrite will attend these two (that is, the congregational Isha and Fajr prayers). The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) meant the Isha and morning prayers. Abu Bishr says: What is meant is that he will not offer these two regularly.
Imam Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Abu Umayr bin Anas, and I have not seen anyone other than Abu Bishr Ja'far bin Abi Wahshiyyah narrating from this narrator; the remaining narrators of this report have been declared trustworthy.

A man from al-Nakha' says: I heard Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) when the time of his death drew near; he said: I am about to narrate to you a hadith that I heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Worship Allah Almighty as though you see Him, and if you do not see Him, then He sees you. Count yourself among the dead, and beware of the supplication of the oppressed against you, for it is answered. Whoever among you is able to attend the two prayers, Isha and the morning (in congregation), should do so, even if he has to go crawling."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. I have not found anyone who mentions the man from al-Nakha'; he named him Jabir.

Sayyiduna Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) states: It was an extremely dark and rainy night, and I thought: It would be good if I seized the opportunity tonight of attending the Isha prayer behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So I did so. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, he saw me. He had a stick in his hand on which he would lean as he walked. He said: "O Qatadah! What is the matter, why are you here at this hour?" I said: "O Prophet of Allah! I took the opportunity of attending the Isha prayer with you." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me that stick and said: "The devil has come behind you to your family. Take this stick and keep hold of it until you reach your house, then seize him in a corner of the house and strike him with this stick." (Sayyiduna Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) states:) I went out of the mosque, and the stick lit up the way a candle gives light. I walked home by its light. When I reached my house, I found that my family had gone to sleep. I looked into a corner of the house, and there was a hedgehog there. I kept striking it with the stick until it went out.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. A longer hadith than this, recorded by Imam Ahmad, will come later in the chapter on Friday and the special hour within it, if Allah wills. The narrators of this narration have been declared trustworthy (muwaththaqun).
