Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray while he was in Makkah facing Bayt al-Maqdis, while the Ka'bah was in front of him. After migrating to Madinah, (he continued praying facing Bayt al-Maqdis) for sixteen months; then he was turned towards the Ka'bah.
Ahmad, al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Hadith Takhrij«أخرجه مسند أحمد برقم: 2252، 2984، وأخرجه المعجم الكبير للطبراني برقم: 11066»
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id bin al-Mu'alla (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: In the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we used to set out in the morning, and we would pass by the mosque and pray in it. One day we passed by while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was seated on the pulpit, and he said: "Today a momentous event has taken place." The narrator says: I drew near to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he recited this verse: "We have certainly seen the turning of your face towards the heaven." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited the whole verse. My companion was beside me, and I said to my companion: "Pray two rak'ahs." He said: "No, not until I see what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) does." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came down from the pulpit and led the people that day in the Zuhr prayer facing the Ka'bah. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Imam al-Nasa'i (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded this part of it: "We used to pass by the mosque and pray in it."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, though he transmitted the words: "I said to my companion: 'Come, let us pray two rak'ahs before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) comes down from the pulpit, so that we will be the first to pray.' So we moved aside a little and prayed those two rak'ahs. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came down from the pulpit." Then the narrator mentioned the hadith as before. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) The hadith of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) will come in the chapter on the Tafsir of Surah al-Baqarah, if Allah wills. The hadith of Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) contains Abdullah bin Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, whom the majority declared da'if (weak); Abd al-Malik bin Shu'ayb bin al-Layth said: "He is thiqah (trustworthy) and reliable."

Kathir bin Abdullah bin Awf narrates from his father, from his grandfather: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he came to Madinah, and he prayed facing Bayt al-Maqdis for seventeen months; then he was turned towards the Ka'bah.
Al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded it. The narrator Kathir is da'if (weak), though al-Tirmidhi graded his hadith hasan (good).

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was facing Bayt al-Maqdis while praying the Zuhr prayer, and during the prayer he turned his face towards the Ka'bah. Then the foolish among the people said (as the Qur'an mentions in these words): "What has turned them away from their qiblah which they used to face?" (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The hadith of Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) is in the Sahih, but there it is mentioned that this happened in the Fajr prayer, whereas here it is mentioned that it happened in the Zuhr prayer.
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains Uthman bin Sa'id, whom Yahya al-Qattan, Yahya bin Ma'in and Abu Zur'ah declared da'if (weak), while the hafiz Abu Nu'aym declared him thiqah (trustworthy). Abu Hatim said: "He is a shaykh."

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The caller of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came (to some people) and said: "The qiblah has been changed." The imam was in the prayer at that time and had already prayed two rak'ahs. The caller said: "The qiblah has been turned towards the Ka'bah, so pray the remaining two rak'ahs facing the Ka'bah."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its chain is hasan (good).

Sayyiduna Umarah bin Ru'aybah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were praying behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) one of the two evening prayers when the qiblah was changed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned around, and we turned around with him; this was after two rak'ahs had been prayed.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Abd al-Malik bin Husayn Abu Malik al-Nakha'i, and he is da'if (weak).

Hadith Takhrij«معرفة الصحابة لابي نعيم الاصبهاني باب العين من اسمه عامر عمارة بن رويبة الثقفي 4673»
Sayyiduna Umarah bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him), who had prayed facing both qiblahs, narrates: We were praying one of the two evening prayers when a caller called out (at the door of the mosque): "The qiblah has been turned towards the Ka'bah." I bear witness concerning our imam that he was turned towards the Ka'bah, and the men, women and children did the same. So some of us prayed facing this way and some of us facing that way.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and Abu Ya'la also recorded it, though he transmitted the words: "He said: I was in my house when a caller called out at the door." Then the narrator mentioned the whole hadith. Its chain contains Qays bin al-Rabi', whom Shu'bah and al-Thawri declared thiqah (trustworthy), and there is disagreement about using him as evidence.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was turned from Syria (that is, Bayt al-Maqdis) towards the qiblah, and he prayed facing the Ka'bah in the month of Rajab, in the seventeenth month after his arrival in Madinah.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray facing Bayt al-Maqdis. When his direction was changed, a man went to the people of Quba' and found them praying the morning prayer. He told them: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has been commanded to pray facing the Ka'bah." So their imam turned around until they faced the qiblah.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.

Sayyiduna Uthman bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came (to Madinah) from Makkah, he used to call people to believe in Allah Almighty and to affirm it by word, without action being part of it, and at that time the qiblah was towards Bayt al-Maqdis. When he migrated to us, the obligations were revealed, the rulings of Madinah abrogated the rulings of Makkah, and the ruling concerning the Sacred House abrogated the ruling concerning Bayt al-Maqdis. So faith then became a combination of word and deed.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Sa'd bin Imran. Abu Hatim said: "He is like al-Waqidi," and al-Waqidi is matruk (abandoned).

Sayyidah Tuwaylah bint Aslam (may Allah be pleased with her), who was one of the women who pledged allegiance at the blessed hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), narrates: We were praying in our place in the area of Banu Harithah when Abbad bin Bishr bin Qibti said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has turned to face the Sacred House and the Ka'bah." So the men turned around into the place of the women, and the women moved into the place of the men, and they prayed the remaining two rak'ahs facing the Ka'bah.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.

Sayyidah Tuwaylah bint Muslim (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: We prayed the Zuhr, or perhaps the Asr, prayer in the mosque of Banu Harithah. We were facing the mosque of Iliya' (Jerusalem), and we had prayed two rak'ahs, when a man came to us and told us: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has turned to face the Sacred House." So the men turned around into the place of the women, and the women moved into the place of the men, and we prayed the remaining two rak'ahs facing the Sacred House. A man from Banu Harithah told me that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "These are people who believe in the unseen."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Ishaq bin Idris al-Aswari, who is da'if (weak) and matruk (abandoned).

Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Once I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a Jewish man asked permission to enter. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him permission, and he said: "Al-samu 'alayk (that is, death be upon you)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And upon you." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I intended to say something. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: Then he came a second time and said words like that again, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And upon you." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: Then he came a third time and said: "Al-samu 'alayk (that is, death be upon you)." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: So I said: "Rather, death be upon you, and may the wrath of Allah descend upon you! You brothers of apes and swine! Do you greet the Messenger of Allah in a way contrary to how Allah Almighty has sent peace upon him?" Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at me and said: "Stop! Allah Almighty does not love obscenity or foul speech. They said something, and we answered them. Their words will not harm us at all, and they will cling to them until the Day of Resurrection. They do not envy us for anything as much as they envy us for Friday, to which Allah Almighty guided us and from which He let them go astray; and they envy us for the qiblah, to which Allah Almighty guided us and from which He let them go astray; and they envy us for our saying 'Amin' behind the imam." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Part of it is reported in the Sahih.
Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains Ali bin Asim, a teacher of Ahmad, who has been criticised because of his many errors and mistakes. Ahmad said: "As for me, I narrate hadith from him, and hadith from him have been narrated to me." The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
