It is reported from one of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked: Which deed is most excellent? The narrator Shu'bah says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The most excellent deed is offering the prayer at its time, treating parents well, and jihad."
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever offers the five prayers at their appointed times, performs ablution well for them, and completes their standing, their humility, their bowing and their prostrations, then when that prayer goes forth it is white and radiant, saying: May Allah Almighty protect you as you have protected me. And whoever offers the prayer outside its time, does not perform ablution well for it, and does not complete its humility, its bowing and its prostrations, then when that prayer goes forth it is black and dark, saying: May Allah Almighty waste you just as you have wasted me. Until, when it reaches the place that Allah wills, it is folded up just as an old garment is folded up, and then (that prayer) is struck against that person's face."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Abbad bin Kathir, whose weakness the hadith scholars agree upon. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The hadith of Sayyiduna Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him), similar to this, will come in the chapter about one who does not complete his prayer and does not perform its bowing properly.

Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us. We were seven people at that time, four of whom were from the mawali (freed clients) and three from the Arabs, and we were leaning with our backs against his mosque. He asked: Why are you sitting? We said: We are sitting waiting for the prayer. The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent for a little while, then turned towards us and said: Do you know what your Lord says? We said: No! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Your Lord says: Whoever offers the five prayers at their times, offers them regularly, and does not waste them by regarding their right as trivial, then for that person there is a covenant upon Me that I will admit him into Paradise. And whoever does not offer the prayer at its appointed time, does not guard it, and wastes it by regarding its right as trivial, then for that person there will be no covenant upon Me: if I will, I shall punish him, and if I will, I shall forgive him. Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and Ahmad also recorded it, except that he recorded these words: "Once we were sitting in the mosque of the Messenger of Allah, with our backs leaning against the qiblah wall of the mosque, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us for the Zuhr prayer and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (After this the narrator mentioned the hadith as before.)"
Its chain contains a narrator, Isa bin al-Musayyab al-Bajali, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by his Companions and asked them: Do you know what your Lord, the Blessed and Exalted, says? They said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this three times, then said: Your Lord says: By My Might and My Majesty, whoever offers this prayer at its appointed time, I will admit him into Paradise; and whoever offers it outside its appointed time, if I will, I shall have mercy on him, and if I will, I shall punish him.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Yazid bin Qutaybah, whom Ibn Abi Hatim mentioned; one narrator from him has been mentioned, but no one has either declared this narrator trustworthy or criticised him.
