Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fixed a period of forty days for women in postnatal bleeding (nifas).
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Ash'ath bin Sawwar, whom Yahya bin Ma'in declared "thiqah" (trustworthy), and there is disagreement about using him as evidence.

Sayyiduna A'idh bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him), who was one of those who pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) under the tree (at the Pledge of Ridwan), narrates: His wife entered postnatal bleeding (nifas). After twenty days she saw purity and took the ritual bath (ghusl). Then she came to get under his blanket with him. When he felt her closeness (in the dark), he asked: "Who is this?" She said: "So-and-so." He said: "What is the matter with you?" She said: "I have seen purity, so I have taken the ritual bath." Then he struck her with his foot and made her get up from his bed, and said: "Do not try to lead me astray in my religion; until forty days have passed (do not come to me)."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Salih bin Bashir al-Murri, who is da'if (weak), and no one declared him "thiqah" (trustworthy), except for what Abbas reported from Yahya bin Ma'in, that there is no harm in him. Others reported from Yahya bin Ma'in and from others that this narrator is da'if (weak) and matruk (abandoned).
