بَابُ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى لِلْمُحْدِثِ .

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حَنْظَلَةَ أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَلَّمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَقَدْ بَالَ ، فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - حَتَّى قَالَ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى الْحَائِطِ - يَعْنِي أَنَّهُ تَيَمَّمَ - .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَفِيهِ رَجُلٌ لَمْ يُسَمَّ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Hanzalah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man greeted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with salam; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had urinated a short while before. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him no reply until he passed his hand over the wall, that is, he performed dry ablution (tayammum) (and then returned his greeting).

وَعَنِ الْبَرَاءِ - يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَازِبٍ - : أَنَّهُ سَلَّمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَهُوَ يَبُولُ ، فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامَ حَتَّى فَرَغَ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ مَنْ لَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ .

Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he greeted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with salam while he was urinating. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not return his greeting until he had finished.

وَعَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سُمْرَةَ قَالَ : دَخَلْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَهُوَ يَبُولُ ، فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيَّ ، ثُمَّ دَخَلَ بَيْتَهُ ، ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَقَالَ : " وَعَلَيْكُمُ السَّلَامُ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ وَالْكَبِيرِ ، وَقَالَ : تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ أَبِي حَسَّانَ . قُلْتُ : وَلَمْ أَجِدْ مَنْ ذَكَرَهُ .

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was urinating. I greeted him with salam, but he did not reply to me. Then he went into his house, performed ablution (wudu), then came out and said: "Wa 'alaykum al-salam (And upon you be peace)!"
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. He says: al-Fadl bin Abi Hassan is alone in narrating it. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: I have not found anyone who mentions him.

وَعَنْ أَبِي سَلَامٍ قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ رَأَى النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - بَالَ ثُمَّ تَلَا آيَاتٍ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ - قَالَ هُشَيْمٌ : آيًا مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ - قَبْلَ أَنْ يَمَسَّ مَاءً .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .

Abu Sallam narrates: Someone who saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told me that he urinated and then, before touching water (that is, before performing ablution), recited some verses of the Qur'an. (Here the narrator Hushaym reported one word differently.)
