Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "I asked Jibril: 'Have you seen your Lord?' He replied: 'Between me and Him are 70 veils of light; if I were to see the nearest of them (on my side), I would be burned up.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; it contains the man who used to lead al-A'mash (the guide of al-A'mash). Abu Dawud said: He has fabricated (mawdu') hadiths. Ibn Hibban mentioned him in the book "al-Thiqat" and said: He falls into error.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! Has Allah Almighty veiled Himself from His creation with anything other than the heavens and the earth?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Yes! Between Him and the angels who are around the Throne are 70 veils of light, 70 veils of fire, 70 veils of darkness, 70 veils of the brocade (istabraq) of the rafraf, 70 veils of the silk (sundus) of the rafraf, 70 veils of white precious stone, 70 veils of red precious stone, 70 veils of yellow precious stone, 70 veils of green precious stone, 70 veils of radiance from which both fire and light take their radiance, 70 veils of snow, 70 veils of water, 70 veils of cloud, 70 veils of hail, and 70 veils of the greatness of Allah Almighty, which cannot be described." The man said: "Tell me about the angel who is nearest to Him!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Jew! Have I told you the truth in what I have described to you?" He replied: "Yes!" Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The nearest to Him is Israfil, then Jibril, then Mika'il, and then the Angel of Death (i.e. Azra'il)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Mun'im bin Idris, whom Imam Ahmad declared a liar, and Ibn Hibban said: He used to fabricate hadith.
