Nu'aym bin Qa'nab al-Riyahi narrates: I came to meet Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him), but I did not find him. I saw a woman and asked her, and she told me: "He has gone to his land." Meanwhile, Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived, driving two camels, one behind the other, and around the neck of each of them was a water-skin. He put down the two water-skins, and I said: "O Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari! Of all people in the world, meeting you is the most beloved thing to me, and meeting you is also the most disliked thing to me." He said: "What are you saying, my friend? How can these two things come together?" The narrator says: I said: "In the Days of Ignorance I buried a baby girl alive. So I wished to meet you so that you would tell me whether there is room for repentance for me, and in meeting you I also feared that you might tell me that there is no room for repentance for me." Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "Did this happen in the Days of Ignorance?" I replied: "Yes!" He said: "May Allah Almighty pardon what you did before."
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: This complete report will come later in the chapter on conduct with women.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.

Sayyiduna Salamah bin Nufayl (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A young man came and sat in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said in a loud voice: "O Messenger of Allah! What is your view about a person who has done every evil, committed every sin, seized whatever came before him, and who is such that if his sins were distributed among all the people of Madinah, they would cover all of them?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "Have you accepted Islam?" (The narrator is in doubt, or perhaps the words are:) "Are you a Muslim?" He said: "As for me, I bear witness that there is no god besides Allah Almighty and that Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go! Your evil deeds have been changed into good deeds." He said: "What about my betrayals and my transgressions?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your betrayals and transgressions too (have been changed into good deeds)." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times. (The narrator says:) The young man turned away, and as he went he was saying: "Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest)." The narrator says: I kept hearing him saying the takbir until he disappeared from my sight, (the narrator is in doubt, or perhaps the words are:) became hidden from me.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Yasin al-Zayyat, who narrates fabricated reports.

It is narrated about Abu Tawil Shatb al-Mamdud that he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "What is your view about a person who has committed every kind of sin, leaving none of them, and has committed every kind of evil; is there room for repentance for such a person?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Have you accepted Islam?" He said: "As for me, I bear witness that there is no god besides Allah Almighty, He alone is the One God, He has no partner, and that you (peace and blessings be upon him) are indeed the Messenger of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Very well; now keep doing good deeds and abandon evil deeds, and Allah Almighty will turn all those evil deeds into good deeds for you." He asked: "My betrayals and my transgressions too (will Allah Almighty change into good deeds)?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes!" He said: "Allahu akbar (Allah is the Greatest)!" After that he kept saying the takbir until he disappeared (from our sight).
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and al-Bazzar recorded a report similar to it. The narrators of al-Bazzar are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Muhammad bin Harun Abu Nashit, and he is thiqah (trustworthy).
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The hadith of Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) about the virtue of La ilaha illallah will come later in the chapter on remembrances (al-Adhkar).

Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: An old man came walking with the support of a staff and stood in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: "O Prophet of Allah! I have some betrayals and some transgressions; will I be forgiven?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you not bear witness that there is no god besides Allah Almighty?" He replied: "Yes, and I also bear witness that Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your betrayals and transgressions have been forgiven."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy; however, Makhul narrated it from Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him), and I (that is, Allamah al-Haythami) do not know whether Makhul heard from him or not.
