Sayyiduna Aws bin Abdullah bin Hujr al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Between "al-Juhfah" and "Harsha", the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), the two of them, passed by me. The two of them were riding a camel, and they were heading towards Madinah. So Sayyiduna Aws bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) gave them his camel, sent his slave Mas'ud along with the two of them, and said: "Take the two of them by the safe route, and do not part from them for as long as they need you and your camel." So the slave took the two of them by way of the mountain pass of "al-Zamha", then he came to the pass of "al-Kuwayyah", then he came to the pass of "al-Murrah", then he came to "Dhat Kasht", then he went to "al-Mudlijah", then he went to "al-Ghassanah", then he went by the pass of "al-Murrah" and brought the two of them to Madinah. They no longer needed him or his camel, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Mas'ud back to his master, Aws bin Abdullah. That man used not to brand his camels, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed the slave to tell Aws to put a brand on the camels' necks the size of a horse's hobble. Sakhr bin Malik says: By Allah, they still brand them with it today, and to my knowledge, the horse's hobble means that two rings are made and something is drawn between them.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a group of narrators whom I do not know.
