Sayyiduna Tariq bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was in the market of Dhu al-Majaz when a young man passed by wearing a red suit of clothes. He was saying: "O people! Say La ilaha illallah (there is no god but Allah) and you will be successful." Behind him was a man who had made his (that is, the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him)) shins and heels bleed, and that man was saying: "O people! This man is a liar; do not obey him." I asked: "Who is this?" Someone told me: "This is the young man from Banu Hashim who claims that he is the Messenger of Allah, and behind him is his uncle Abd al-Uzza." The narrator says: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) migrated to Madinah and people accepted Islam, on that occasion we set out from al-Rabadhah, and an elderly woman was with us. When we came to Madinah and reached near its settlement, we changed our clothes. Meanwhile we saw a man on the road. He asked: "Where have you come from?" We said: "We have come, leaving our families behind." We had a red camel standing there with a halter on it. That man asked: "Will you sell your camel?" We replied: "Yes." He asked: "For how much?" We said: "For such and such sa' of dates." He did not ask for any reduction in the price we had stated. Then he stretched out his hand, took the camel's halter and went off with it. When he disappeared from our sight among the dwellings, we said: "By Allah! What have we done? We have made a deal with a man whom we do not even know." The woman who was sitting there said: "I saw a man whose face was like a piece of the full moon on the fourteenth night. By Allah! He will not wrong you or cheat you; I guarantee your camel." Then another man came and said: "I am the messenger of the Messenger of Allah to you. These are your dates; measure them, eat your fill, and measure them." The narrator says: We ate of them and were filled, and we measured them and they were complete. Then we entered Madinah and came to the Mosque, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was on the pulpit delivering a sermon. We heard him say: "Give charity, for charity is better for you."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Abu Janab al-Kalbi, who is a mudallis; Ibn Hibban declared him thiqah (trustworthy). The remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.
