It is reported about Sayyidah Asma' bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) that people said to her: "What was the most severe thing you saw the polytheists inflict on the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The polytheists were sitting in the Mosque (that is, near the Ka'bah), talking about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and about what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says about their gods. While they were in that state, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived, and they all rose and went towards the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Someone came and called out loudly to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him): "Reach your master!" Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) went out from us; he had four plaits of hair, and he was saying: "Woe to you! Would you kill a man because he says, 'My Lord is Allah', when he has brought you clear signs from your Lord?" So they left the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and turned upon Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came back to us, and his state was such that whichever of his locks of hair he touched came away with his hand, and he was saying: "Blessed are You, O Possessor of Majesty and Honour!"
Abu Ya'la recorded it. Its chain contains Tadrus, the grandfather of Abu al-Zubayr, and I do not know him. The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
