Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 9815

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once they beat the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) until he fell unconscious. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and began saying loudly: "Woe to you! Would you kill a man because he says, 'My Lord is Allah'?" The people said: "Who is this?" Others said: "This is Abu Bakr, the madman."
Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar recorded it, and he added the words: "So they left the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and turned towards Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him)." The narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.
