Sayyiduna Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man said: "O Messenger of Allah! Was Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him) a prophet?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Yes." He asked: "How long was there between Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him) and Sayyiduna Nuh (peace be upon him)?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ten centuries." He asked: "How long was there between Sayyiduna Nuh (peace be upon him) and Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him)?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Ten centuries." He asked: "O Messenger of Allah! How many messengers were there?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Three hundred and fifteen."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
