Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about Saba': what is it? Is it a man? Or a woman? Or a land? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is a man who had ten children; six of them settled in Yemen and four of them settled in Syria. Those who lived in Yemen are: Madhhij, Kindah, al-Azd, the Ash'ariyyun, Anmar and Himyar, all of them Arabs. Those of Syria are: Lakhm, Judham, Amilah and Ghassan."
Ahmad (in his Musnad) and Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded it; its chain contains the narrator Ibn Lahi'ah, and he is da'if (weak). (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: The report narrated by Yazid bin Husayn will come later, in the chapter on Surah Saba', and it is more authentic than this report.
