Majma al-Zawaid 9354 — Racing, wagering and what is permitted in it

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) held a race between horses; he set a prize between them and appointed a muhallil among them, and he said: "Competition (for a prize) is only in horse racing or archery." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Part of it is reported in the "Sahih."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
