Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to line up the sons of Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Ubaydullah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Kathir (may Allah be pleased with him), and then he would say: "Whoever reaches me first will get such and such." The narrator says: So they would race towards the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and fall upon his back and his chest, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would kiss them and hug them to himself.
Imam Ahmad recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Yazid bin Abi Ziyad, in whom there is weakness and softness. Imam Abu Dawud says: I do not know anyone who abandoned his hadith, though another narrator would be more preferable to me than him. Imam Muslim recorded a narration from him coupled (maqrun) with another narrator, and Imam al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded from him as a ta'liq (without a connected chain). The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
