Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Woe to the rulers (umara')! Woe to the overseers ('urafa')! Woe to the trustees (umana')! (That is, woe to the officials of the state.) A day will come upon them when such a person will wish that he had been hung from a star rather than having been made responsible for any office of state."
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Umar bin Sa'id al-Nasri, who is da'if (weak), and Layth bin Abi Sulaym, who is a mudallis.
