Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Hantab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed us at al-Juhfah and said: "Do I not have more right over you than your own selves?" The people said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then I will ask you about two things: about the Qur'an and about my family ('itrah). Beware! Do not go ahead of Quraysh, or you will go astray; and do not lag behind them, or you will perish; and do not try to teach them, for they are more knowledgeable than you. The strength of one man of Quraysh is greater than the strength of two men of any other people. Were it not for the fear that Quraysh would become arrogant, I would tell them what rank and station they have with Allah Almighty. The best of Quraysh are the best of the people."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains someone whom I do not know.
