وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : مَا أَتَى عَلَى النَّاسِ عَامٌ إِلَّا أَحْدَثُوا فِيهِ بِدْعَةً وَأَمَاتُوا فِيهِ سُنَّةً ، حَتَّى تَحْيَا الْبِدَعُ وَتَمُوتَ السُّنَنُ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَرِجَالُهُ مُوَثَّقُونَ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: "Every new year that comes upon people, they introduce some innovation in it and put an end to some Sunnah, until innovations will remain alive and the Sunnahs will die out."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.
