Sayyiduna Abu Khidash bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding some need, and I said: "What if I do not find you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then come to Abu Bakr." I said: "What if I do not find Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) either?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Come to Umar." I said: "What if I do not find Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) either?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then Uthman." I said: "What if I do not find Sayyiduna Uthman either?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. I repeated my question two or three times. Then I later thought: This is the bounty of Allah Almighty, which He gives to whomever He wills.
Imam Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains al-Waqidi, and a narrator whom I do not know.
