Sayyiduna Ya'la bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married me to a woman who was either a hairdresser or a perfume-maker. I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) having applied khaluq, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Will you not wash this thing off?" (The narrator is unsure; perhaps the words were:) "Will you not wash this filth off yourself?" I came to a well and washed in it until the water turned yellow. Then I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while its trace was still on me, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go and wash it." I went and washed it, and it did not go away until I cleaned it with earth.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a woman narrator, Hakimah bint Ghaylan, and I do not know the two of them. The remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.
