Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 8631

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that a man walk wearing one sandal or one leather sock (khuff), or spend the night alone in a house, or, when relieving himself, stand up without coughing, or face an enemy alone; however, if he is compelled, he may defend himself alone.
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: I found this narration like this in the copy from which I transcribed it, and that copy is not the "original".
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it. Abdullah bin Ahmad transmitted it as "wijadah" (from a written source) from his father's writing, and he said: "My father struck it out; he did not narrate this hadith to us." The narrators of Imam Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih, and the same is the case with the narrators of Imam al-Tabarani, except that Abdullah transmitted from his father that he struck it out because of the narrator al-Hasan bin Dhakwan. I say: he is among the narrators of the "Sahih".
