Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 8486

Sayyiduna Wathilah bin al-Asqa' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever goes to a soothsayer and asks him about something, repentance is veiled from him for forty days; and if he believes what he says, he commits disbelief."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. In another narration of his, in place of the words "and believes him" the words are: "if he has faith in what he says." Its chain contains Sulayman bin Ahmad al-Wasiti, who is matruk (abandoned).
