Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Hold opinion in suspicion in matters of religion! I remember about myself that I did not accept the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a matter, although in that situation I spared no effort in seeking the truth. That was on the day of the incident of Abu Jandal (at the Treaty of Hudaybiyah), when a written treaty was about to be made between the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the people of Makkah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Write: 'Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim' (seeking blessing through the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful). They said: Do you think that we have affirmed what you say? Write: 'Bismika Allahumma' (O Allah, seeking blessing through Your name). Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) agreed to this, but I did not accept it, until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: O Umar, you see that I have agreed, and still you refuse? Sayyiduna Umar said: So I agreed.
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy, even though Mubarak bin Fadalah is among them.
