Al-Qasim Abu Abd al-Rahman said: I was sitting with Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) when he sent for Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: What are these hadiths which I have been told that you narrate? I have resolved to exile you from Syria. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah! Were it not for the matter of the women, I would not have liked to stay here for a moment (or to stay here even for an hour). Then Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: What are the hadiths that you narrate about tila'? He said: It is not lawful for me to attribute to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) something that he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say. I heard him say: "Whoever attributes to me something that I did not say, let him be ready to reach his particular place in Hell." And I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say about wine: "Whoever places it in his palm, his supplication will not be accepted; and whoever habitually drinks it will be made to drink from al-Khabal, and al-Khabal is a valley in Hell." Then Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: My view about you is that you heard the like of what I heard. The narrator said: Then Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) intended to confirm his words, but then he fell silent.
Al-Tabarani recorded it from his teacher Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Irq, whom al-Dhahabi declared da'if (weak), saying: He is not reliable. However, I have not seen any weakening of him by the early scholars, and the remaining narrators of this narration have been declared trustworthy.
