Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever drinks a single sip of wine, Allah Almighty will not accept any obligatory or voluntary worship from him for three days; and whoever drinks a cup, Allah Almighty will not accept anything from him for forty days. And for the one who habitually drinks wine, it is binding upon Allah Almighty that He make him drink from the River of Khabal. It was asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is the River of Khabal? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The pus of the people of Hell."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Hakim bin Nafi', and he is da'if (weak); Yahya bin Ma'in and others declared him thiqah (trustworthy).
