وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنِ امْرَأَةٍ مِنْهُمْ قَالَتْ : دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَأَنَا آكُلُ بِشِمَالِي ، وَكُنْتُ امْرَأَةً عَسْرَاءَ ، فَضَرَبَ يَدِي فَسَقَطَتِ اللُّقْمَةُ فَقَالَ : " لَا تَأْكُلِي بِشِمَالِكِ ، وَقَدْ جَعَلَ اللَّهُ لَكِ يَمِينًا " أَوْ قَالَ : " قَدْ أَطْلَقَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى يَمِينَكِ " .
قَالَ : فَتَحَوَّلَتْ شِمَالِي يَمِينًا فَمَا أَكَلْتُ بِهَا بَعْدُ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُ أَحْمَدَ ثِقَاتٌ .
قَالَ : فَتَحَوَّلَتْ شِمَالِي يَمِينًا فَمَا أَكَلْتُ بِهَا بَعْدُ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُ أَحْمَدَ ثِقَاتٌ .
Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Zayd narrates the account of a woman from his family: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me while I was eating with my left hand; I was a left-handed woman. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) struck my hand and the morsel fell. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not eat with your left hand! Allah Almighty has given you a right hand." (The narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are:) He said: "Allah Almighty has freed your right hand (i.e. it can be used)." The narrator says: That woman said: So I moved the tasks of my left hand over to my right hand, and I never ate with it (the left hand) again.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it, and Ahmad's narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
