وَعَنْ حَفْصَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَتْ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ اضْطَجَعَ عَلَى يَدِهِ الْيُمْنَى ، وَكَانَتْ يَمِينُهُ لِأَكْلِهِ ، وَشَرَابِهِ ، وَوُضُوئِهِ ، وَثِيَابِهِ ، وَأَخْذِهِ ، وَعَطَائِهِ ، وَكَانَ يَجْعَلُ شِمَالَهُ لِمَا سِوَى ذَلِكَ .
قُلْتُ : رَوَى أَبُو دَاوُدَ طَرَفًا مِنْ أَوَّلِهِ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .
قُلْتُ : رَوَى أَبُو دَاوُدَ طَرَفًا مِنْ أَوَّلِهِ .

Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her), the honoured wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to his bed, he would lie down on his right side. His right hand was for eating, drinking, performing ablution, dressing, taking hold of things and giving things, and his left hand was for other tasks. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud recorded the opening part of this report.
