Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 7753

Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) divorced Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her). When the news reached Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), he put dust on his head and said: "O son of al-Khattab! What regard will Allah Almighty have for you after this?" After that, Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) came down to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "Out of mercy for Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), Allah Almighty has commanded you to take her back."
Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Amr bin Salih al-Hadrami, whom I do not know. The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
