Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a marriage proposal to a woman from his people named Sayyidah Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her). She was a widow with five, or perhaps six, children; her husband had died. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "Why will you not marry me?" She said: By Allah, O Messenger of Allah! What holds me back from marrying you is not that you are anything less than the most beloved of all creation to me; rather, I wish to spare you having these children at your head morning and evening, crying and clamouring. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is there anything else holding you back?" She said: No, by Allah! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah Almighty have mercy on you. Of the women who ride on the backs of camels, the best are the righteous women of Quraysh: the most tender towards their children in their childhood, and the most caring of their husbands in what they possess."
Ahmad, Abu Ya'la and at-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Shahr bin Hawshab, who is thiqah (trustworthy), though there has been criticism of him; the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
