Sa'id bin Jubayr states: I said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): "Do you know what you have done, and what fatwa you have given? Riders have spread your fatwa far and wide, and poets have composed verses about it." He asked: "What have those poets said?" I replied: "Those poets have said: 'He said to the old man, when his sitting grew long: O friend, do you have any interest in the fatwa of Ibn Abbas? Do you have any interest in a soft-limbed young maiden, who would be your abode until the people return?'" Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un (We belong to Allah and to Him we return). By Allah! This is not what I gave a fatwa for, nor is this what I intended. I made lawful of it only what Allah has made lawful of carrion, blood and the flesh of swine."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains al-Hajjaj bin Artah, who is thiqah (trustworthy) but a mudallis (one who conceals defects in the chain), and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
